Four days since the heavy storm, Delhiites are still reeling from major power cuts and shortages in water supply.
West and South West Delhi are still facing disrupted power supply due to the devastation caused on the major 220 KV transmission line from Bamnauli to Papankalla-1 Grid. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRLP) supplies power to these areas.
Due to the above reasons, load shedding of 2-4 hours has been the norm since the past four days. Areas affected by interrupted supply from BRLP areas include Hastal, Kesho Pur plant, Shankar Garden, Vikaspuri, Kanyan Niketan Tagore Garden, Water Tank, Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri and Hari Nagar, amongst others.
The massive power supply disruption also affected the functioning of all water treatment plants at Chandrawal, Haiderpur and Nangloi, amongst other plants. ‘BRPL is trying hard to supply restricted power available, by restoring to rotationary-shedding in certain areas’, said the company’s spokesperson.
Tata power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) on Monday issued a statement that, ‘they are at present supplying 100 per cent power to all its consumers except for some rural areas in Narela, for which power will be restored by Monday evening’.
Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) supplies power to TPDDL area through the 400/220 KV Bawana Grid to Rohini, where the number five transmission tower is badly damaged, which as per DTL sources, may take another 3-4 weeks to repair. However power supply to Rohini, Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura areas have been alternatively arranged through Bawana-Shalimar Bagh-Rohini line and Khanjhawala-Rohini line, albeit under some load restrictions.
Meanwhile Delhi Public Works Department has restored traffic movement after clearing all roads affected by the massive storm. ‘The impact by the storm was so devastating that 370 tress along PWD roads and in government building complexes were uprooted. This affected the flow of traffic on 29 major roads including the Kapashera to Bijwasan, Ridge Road, Shankar Road, outer Ring Road, Jail Road, CNG, Pump Station, NH-1 Singhu Border to Mukarba Chowk, etc.’, a PWD official said. The PWD staff has acted on war footing and cleared all broken trees.
