The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intelligence team apprehended six Sri Lankan citizens and recovered fake Indian currency at IGI Airport on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at around 11 am, when the CISF intelligence team received an information from a source that six Sri Lankan nationals who were travelling to Mumbai, were carrying fake Indian currency.
After receiving the information, the team was put into action and they intercepted two Sri Lankans at Akbar Travels ticketing counter outside terminal 1D of IGI Airport.
‘They were asked to produce the Indian currency they were carrying and they showed two Rs. 1000 notes which were verified and found to be fake,’ said a CISF official.
On further questioning, both confessed that they were part of a group of six Sri Lankans, and four had already entered into the terminal 1D after purchasing tickets from Akbar Travels after paying Rs. 45,288. On further enquiry, they informed that they had a textile products business in Dubai and frequently visited Delhi and Mumbai.
The six Sri Lankans were at terminal 1D, IGI Airport, on their way Mumbai and were to take Indigo flight No 6E-177 which was scheduled for departure at 1.50 am.
CISF personnel recovered fake Indian currency worth Rs. 28,000 and the Sri Lankans were handed over to Palam police station for further legal action.
