Church fire: CRPF and Nagaland Police personnel deployed to maintain peace

In a bid to avoid any untoward incident, the government on Friday deployed personnel of CRPF and Nagaland Police out St Sebastian Church in Dilshad Garden, which was destroyed by fire recently.

“Around 25 officials from CRPF and Nagaland Police (summoned specially for the purpose) guard the area in shifts to maintain peace”, said a police officer while adding it will continue until the situation is brought under control.

He further informed one officer from Delhi Police is also posted there in 12-hour shift to report any untoward incident.

The church was burnt in a mysterious fire on Monday morning. Soon after that, members of the concerned community alleged it was pre-planned act. Later, police had to file a case under section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) of Indian Penal Code.

Thousands of protesters held a demonstration outside the police headquarter on Tuesday demanding fair and impartial probe into the matter. An SIT, headed by  joint commissioner of police Ravindra Yadav,  was also formed by Najeeb Jung to probe the matter.
