That women in the national capital, irrespective of their age and occupation, are insecure was proved yet again on Monday.

In yet another incident of crime against women, a 30-year-old teacher was sexually assaulted outside her residence in broad daylight in south Delhi's RK Puram area. A few children playing nearby proved to be her saviours. The children heard the teacher, when she started screaming for help, and managed to nab the accused.

The incident took place at approximately 3 pm when she was returning home from the private institute where she teaches in a DTC bus.

A youth in his early twenties, allegedly started following her from the RK Puram bus stop and followed her right up to her residence.

According to the complainant, when she started climbing the stairs to her house, the youth grabbed her from behind, causing her to fall on the stairs.  But the victim raised an alarm and a few children, aged between 10-13 ran up to help her.

While the accused tried to escape, the victim managed to snatch the identity card that he had on, even though he managed to flee.

He was, however, given chase by the children. Two of the children pelted the accused, whose identity card identified him as Aditya Sharma, a student of hotel management in Amity University, with stones.

The children chased him for about half a kilometer. It became easier for the children to catch the accused when he ran into a dead end, a place closed in on threes sides. The children locked the door on the fourth side, thus trapping him.

A call was made to the police control room and a team of cops reached the spot and arrested the accused. Both the victim and the children received minor injuries in the incident.

'A case under section- 271 (sexual assault), along with other appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code, has been registered at RK Puram police station,’ an official said.

The victim is married to a businessman who was out of town at the time of the incident. She has a 5-year-old daughter and resides with her family in Sector-3 RK Puram.
