The appointment of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi, as Delhi Chief Secretary is stuck in a limbo as he is below the rank of Additional Secretary. According to the rules of the home ministry, an IAS officer of or above the rank of an Additional Secretary is eligible for the post.
However, the Delhi government has short-listed three names for the post of Delhi Chief Secretary, that of, Naini Jayaseelan, member secretary of the National Capital Regional Planning Board; former Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, presently posted as chairman, Delhi Financial Corporation; and Nutan Guha Biswas, principal secretary to Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.
Srivastava and Jayaseelan belong to the 1980 batch of officers, while Biswas comes from 1983.
According to sources, Negi has a few pending inquiries against him which has made it all the more difficult for consideration of a promotion.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and raised issues relating to the law-and-order situation in the national Capital.
Sources revealed that Kejriwal also discussed the appointment of the new Chief Secretary for the Delhi government, with the incumbent D M Spolia set to retire on Saturday. He is understood to have apprised the Home Minister of his government’s choice for the next Chief Secretary.
Sources said that Ramesh Negi (1984 batch IAS officer), currently serving as Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, was in the race for the top post in the city government.
