Chief Minister inaugurates Kolkata-Digha helicopter service

Speaking at Digha helipad ground after inaugurating helicopter service between Kolkata and Digha, Banerjee said Digha would soon become one of the foremost tourist destinations in the country. Digha will soon attract more tourists from various parts of the country which will boost the economy in the area.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Kolkata-Digha Duranta Express was started during her tenure as the Railway minister had helped in boosting tourism in Digha.  

A ropeway will soon be launched at Amrabati Park in Digha for tourists. It will run along a Lake in Amrabati Park. The length of the ropeway will be around 150-200 metres, which would enable the tourists for better views of the sea. The government has been discussing modalities with coastal zone authorities on the new rope way that will ply between Old and New Digha. To attract more tourists, the state government is going to develop the coastal areas of Digha, Shankarpur, Tajpur and Mandarmani. Banerjee on Tuesday directed the district administration and the civic bodies to ensure that the roads, beaches and various beautification projects were properly maintained.  

The Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority has taken steps to improve civic infrastructure. Banerjee returned to Kolkata in the Digha-Kolkata helicopter immediately after launching the service.
