Gandhi will be heading the operations of all initiatives in this space and report to Zee Entertainment MD & CEO Punit Goenka, it added.

Goenka said: “Venturing into the English news space allows us to extend our presence in the overall news genre across geographies and even in the international arena. We want to launch a news network for global audiences with an Indian point-of-view.”

Gandhi has over 23 years of experience and has worked with various news organisations, including CBC, CNN, BCTV & Global TV and NDTV, the company said. ZMCL (formerly known as Zee News) is a network of 10 channels, including two national channels Zee News and Zee Business. It has regional news channels such as Zee 24 Taas, Zee Sangam, Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Zee Marudhara (Rajasthan), Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal and Zee Kalinga (Odisha). Meanwhile, Telecom operator Reliance Communications (RCom) said it has short-listed bidders that have sought to acquire up to 100 <g data-gr-id="28">per cent</g> stake in its tower subsidiary Reliance Infratel.

Reliance Infratel has more than 45,000 mobile towers, and proceeds from the stake sale will help the company reduce debt this fiscal. “The company has received indicative non-binding bids from a number of interested <g data-gr-id="33">buyers,</g> and has short-listed a smaller number of very credible interested parties to progress to the next round of the process,” RCom said in a statement.

The company added it has short-listed some bidders that have expressed interest <g data-gr-id="59">to acquire up to 100 <g data-gr-id="23">per cent</g> of RCom’s stake in Reliance Infratel</g>.

“The due diligence process has now commenced. Further announcements will be made, as and when appropriate. The sale proceeds from the proposed transaction are expected to substantially reduce RCom’s overall gross debt during the current financial year,” the company added.
