Centre asks Naxal-hit states to step up vigil

The Centre on Monday asked all Naxal- affected states and security forces to step up operations against the ultras and vigil against armed Maoists who are planning to intesify their offensive later this week.

Sources said the CPI (Maoist) will be observing the first death anniversary of slain Naxal leader Kishenji on 24 Nov and the immediate period preceding or following this date could witness attacks on security forces, railway tracks and other vital and economic and public infrastructure. The Maoists under the banner of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army  could undertake such attacks during 2-8 Dec in various states but sources said inputs suggested that Kishenji's death anniversary has prompted them to advance their violent activity to the coming week. Kishenji was killed on 24 Nov last year in a special operation conducted by a joint squad of the state police and CRPF.
