The city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party may have been the first to constitute a jumbo election committee and election core group among the four major states scheduled to go to polls this year end, but it is all set to mis the first meeting of central election committee.
‘The state unit of the party has not sent any list of candidates to the central election committee for consideration so the matter of Delhi will not be considered in this meeting. They will be finalising the candidates list for Chhattishgarh,’ said Vijay Goel, president of Delhi BJP.
The central election committee is the top-most body of the BJP that finalises and approves the names of candidates in the elections to state assemblies and Parliament.
According to sources, state election committees generally send the names of three to four candidates for each seat, and the central committee finalises the final candidate.
The 24-member election committee and 54 member election core group for Delhi was constituted on 25 August and according to Goel the committee has shortlisted around three to four prospective candidates for each seat.
‘We will sit again in soon to finalise the name for each seat and send the list to central election committee,’ said Goel. ‘We are yet to finalise the date of meeting but it will occur soon,’ he added. The city BJP has already missed two deadline — 15 September and 7 October, to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming elections in Delhi.
