The landlords claimed to snap power connection of dozens of towers on Monday, warning of a power cut to the remaining towers as well. The landlords claimed that they are abiding by the authority’s notice. The authority, however, has assured to settle score by withdrawing the earlier issued notice but is yet to make announcement in this regard. Owning to the ongoing crisis, more complaints of call drops and loss of internet connection were reported from across the city. Notably, nearly one-third towers out of a total of 520, located alongside residential units, have not been working as the landlords have stopped the power supply.
The Resident’s Tower Association (RTA), which represents the tower landlords, said that power supply of several other towers have been suspended as talks with authorities have failed. The authority had ordered the members to remove towers, warning to cancel their lease deed and they had no option but to follow the order. If the authority wants to end the spar, it will have to with draw its order back with immediate effect. “On Monday (Monday) we met with the authority officials, requesting intervention. We demanded the withdrawal of the notice and an issue of a fresh letter to landlords,” said Satish Batra of RTA.
While discussing the issue, authority officials said that they have been keeping an eye on the entire development and are in talks with both sides. The officials also hinted upon either a roll-back of the notice or a further extension for three months so that they could chalk out a proper plan. “We discussed the matter with the representatives of both sides asking them to end the crisis. We are working up on a plan to solve the issue,” said an official.
The tower companies, have, however, reiterated on their earlier stand of not removing towers from residential units. The matter is pending in court and there are speculations of worse days ahead. “In view of the ongoing crisis, we met the authority officials. We have discussed the issue. The officials assured us to look into the matter,” said a representative of tower company.
