With the help of a mobile phone recharge coupon, the Delhi Police on Sunday apprehended a person accused of killing a woman in her house in Central Delhi’s Paharganj area.
The decomposed body of the woman, who appears to be in her mid-20s, was found in her rented accommodation in Ramchandra Gali on Friday, after neighbours complained of some foul smell. The house was recently rented out to a couple, who told the landlord that they were married.
A police team broke open the door and found the woman’s decomposed body. Deep cut marks were found on her back, indicating that she was attacked with some blunt object. The police also found a mobile recharge coupon in the house and started probing the matter with the help of the coupon code.
The landlord told the police that the man, who claimed to be the victim’s husband, promised to submit his identity proof after Holi. But the couple was not seen over the next few days and the door was found locked from outside.
“Later, it was found that the woman belonged to Gurgaon and was married to someone else. The police managed to identify the accused with the help of the code printed on the recharge coupon. The code on the coupon helped the police ascertain the mobile number of the accused. Accordingly, they managed to arrest the accused, who belongs to Jharkhand. We are questioning him about the incident,” a source close to investigation said.
Senior police officials of the Central district confirmed the apprehension but refused to disclose the man’s identity.
