Celebrating Contemporary Arts

The national Capital witnessed a celebration of arts with ‘The Opening Weekend’ of the fourth season of the Contemporary Arts Week  (CAW) at Nehru Park. 

The first day opened with workshops in dance, yarn bombing and live painting. A Crafts Lane was available for retail therapy or window shopping options with fashion, decor, and arts and crafts as highlights. Stalls catering to different cuisines, and a first-of-its-kind Master Chef workshop at the Food Lane to give one’s inner chef a chance was a hit with the public. Not far behind were the scintillating performances, the main highlights of the day, an evening filled with the all-star-band serving up a heady mix of contemporary Folk and Sufi music, featuring the likes of singers Shilpa Rao who sung her latest rendition ‘Buleya’, Kutle Khan from Jaisalmer mesmerised the crowd with his folk songs. Akhil Sachdeva of Nasha, Santa Singh of Nuur, Ujwal Nagar of Advaita, flautist Pandit Ajay Prasanna, saxophonist Abhay Sharma were among others. 

Day two had lots of exciting activities like Drum Circle and Circus acts, Open Jam - dance and music, workshops in dance, finger painting, graphitti etc. The day culminated with the mesmerizing performances by the Raghu Dixit Project and Suryaveer. Raghu Dixit was a major crowd puller. On till 22nd October CAW is an annual art festival organised by an NGO- Friends of Art that welcomes artists and audiences of all age groups. This unique festival incorporates art forms such as dance, music, theater, puppetry, clowning, mime, visual arts, short films, photography, slam poetry, short films, stand-up, mixed media and street art. 

This initiative is a conscious effort to encourage audiences to explore a variety of different Arts by bringing together artists and like-minded people under one roof.
