Chief election commissioner V S Sampath will visit the coming weekend Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya where elections are due, officials said on Monday. The election commission team will review the preparations in the three states.
The team is expected to reach Agartala Saturday. The next day, it would go to Nagaland. It will be in Meghalaya on January, an official said.
Assembly elections are due to be held in February in the three northeastern states.
The assemblies in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland have 60 seats each. Their terms expire 10 March, 16 March and 26 March respectively.
Tripura chief electoral officer Ashutosh Jindal told reporters that the training of returning officers, checking of electronic voting machines and other steps would be taken.
