CBI to probe AI deal to buy 68 aircraft

Then aviation minister Praful Patel is now under the scanner of the probe agency and sources said that soon he will be summoned for his statement over the alleged scam. Speaking to media persons Patel, an NCP leader, said that he is ready for the probe and claimed that he has done nothing wrong.

Even senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar too welcomed the CBI probe into the matter. Interestingly, it was NCP who had given a clean chit to Patel and blamed former prime minister Manmohan Singh for the mess.

The ‘secrete’ CBI in to the scam came in lime light after the civil aviation ministry in a reply to a Right to Information (RTI) application (filed by AI’s former ED Jitendra Bhargava) has disclosed that Air India’s controversial $11 billion deal to aircrafts is being investigated by the CBI.

‘The files related to the Boeing deal cannot be made public as presently the case is under investigation by the CBI,’ ministry sources said. CAG had in its report submitted to Parliament in 2011 found fault with Patel for not supporting the airline, which has lurched from one crisis to another over the past few years and now finds itself in a debt trap.
