CBI gears up to grill Bansal on Railgate

Closing in on the charges of corruption against former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to scrutinies every ‘major’ contract which was commissioned during his tenure. Sources said that a few files involving contracts which were awarded when Bansal was in office have already been sought from the railway ministry. Bansal’s interrogation, too, is now just a matter of time.

‘We have a strong suspicion that discrepancies would be found in other deals too, especially those relating to award of contracts during his term. We will probe it to the core,’ the CBI sources stated, adding that, ‘Though we don’t need any permission to grill the minister, we are making sure that we have all the required evidence to confront him.’ The former minister had resigned on Friday following arrest of his nephew Vijay Singla for allegedly accepting bribe for favouring one Mahesh Kumar, a railway board member, for elevation to a higher post. Several of Bansal’s relatives, including two sons, have already come under CBI scanner in connection with the note-for-post scam.
