CBI arrests IT Dy Commissioner for bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI ) on Thursday arrested Deputy Commissioner Income Tax (DCIT), M Logapathy, for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to settle a businessman’s tax case.

Logapathy, an 2008-batch IRS officer, was arrested from his office in New Delhi, while accepting the bribe from an advocate. “The CBI has also arrested the advocate, a director of a private company and a personal attendant of DCIT serving at his office,” said a CBI statement.

Searches were conducted at 12 locations, including the office and residences of the accused in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Pondicherry, which led to the recovery of property documents, tax-related files, hard discs, pen drives and other documents.  The arrested were produced before the Designated Court in Delhi on Thursday, which has remanded them to a three-day police custody.
