Banerjee, for the last one year, has been stressing for a non-BJP, non-Congress ‘Federal Front’ to form government in the centre. Her three-day Delhi visit, especially a day after the assembly election results were declared, has floated several speculations on her political moves and interaction with the leaders in the Capital. While talking to the mediapersons at the NSC Bose International Airport in Kolkata, she said, ‘I am going to Delhi for the interest of Bengal and not for any personal work.’ However, once in Delhi, she refused to comment further at the 181-South Avenue TMC party office.
She is expected to meet the political leaders to discuss the outcomes of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh poll results declared on Sunday. Many political experts feel that she might wish AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for his outstanding political debut.
In September last year, Banerjee came out of the Congress-led UPA government at the centre over fuel and fertiliser prices hikes. Since then, she had called for a ‘Federal Front’, which she later termed as the United India Front (UIF), as an alternative to the UPA-run New Delhi.
Previously, on several occasions, Banerjee has expressed that the Federal Front would play a crucial role in forming the government in Delhi. Riding the poribortan (change) wave, if the TMC manages to come up with a good show in the Lok Sabha election in West Bengal, then her party would have greater say in Delhi’s politics.
This is Banerjee’s first visit to Delhi after April this year when she faced ire of SFI protesters outside the Planning Commission office and had to be hospitalised later.
