Businessman robbed of Rs 22 lakh in East Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar

The incident took place around 4 pm when Rakesh Raj Chawla, who runs a plastic chemical factory, had gone to Nigam Bodh Ghat to attend the last rites of a friend. The money was taken from Chawla’s employees Shambu and Sonu, who were in office at the time of the crime.

The robbers arrived after a client had made a payment of Rs 22 lakh. They pointed a gun at Shambu and Sonu and asked them to hand over the cash, which the employees did so fearing their lives, a police official quoting Chawla’s employees said.

After the culprits fled the scene, Shambhu and Sonu informed Chawla and the police about the incident.

A police team soon reached the spot and started investigation. Fingerprints and other forensic evidence have been lifted from the spot. ‘Preliminarily examination reveals the involvement of someone known. As the accused were aware about the absence of the owner they planned the robbery immediately after the owner left the factory. Also, the accused entered from the back-gate that is more often used by employees. CCTV cameras were installed at the main gate, that could be another reason to make an entry through the back-gate,’ an investigating officer said.
No arrests have been made in this regard.
