Businessman robbed of Rs 22 lakh in day light

Even while the Delhi police are claiming to be on top of the game when it comes to safeguarding markets, especially with Diwali round the corner, an atrocious  daylight robbery was committed in Lajpat Nagar market area, in which a man lost Rs 22 lakh.

The incident took place on Sunday in the central market of Lajpat Nagar at about 10.25 am. A businessman was robbed by two unknown assistants on a motorcycle.

‘The victim has been identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Lajpat Nagar. He runs  a foreign exchange office at central market. Kumar was carrying a bag containing Rs 22 lakh that includes foreign currency worth Rs 14 lakh,’ a police official said.

According to the victim, he was going to his office on his two-wheeler. Two motorcycle borne thieves allegedly overtook his vehicle and intercepted him.

‘One of them snatched his bag on gun point. While the other opened fire in the air and threw chilly powder into Kumar’s eyes. They fled the scene with the money,’ said the police.

A case has been registered under appropriate sections. A man-hunt is on to nab the assailants as per the description provided by the victim. ‘We are looking at the CCTV footage, to identify the accused’ the official added.
