NEW DELHI: The ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ ceremony for the permanent campus of Kendriya Vidyalaya at Khajuri Khas in Delhi was held on Monday, in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Education minister Ashish Sood, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Law minister Kapil Mishra, and NBCC Chief General Manager Rajeev Kumar.
The ceremony was also attended by senior officials of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and NBCC.
The Chief Minister had announced in October 2025 that a new Kendriya Vidyalaya would be opened in Khajuri Khas to expand access to quality education in north-east Delhi. NBCC has been entrusted with the construction of the two-section school building and development of facilities at an estimated cost of Rs 47.80 crore. The project is scheduled for completion within 24 months.
The new academic building will be constructed on a 1.82-acre plot with a built-up area of 8,725 square metres. The ground plus four-storey structure, with a height of 17.5 metres, will accommodate 1,520 students.
It will include 38 classrooms, a double-height entrance lobby with a statue of Goddess Saraswati, a multipurpose court, a Bal Vatika play area, lift access and parking facilities. Provision has also been made for 10 additional classrooms in future.
The campus will incorporate solar power systems, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, EV charging points and nearly 25% green cover to meet 4-Star GRIHA sustainability standards.
