Makers of Corrugated box, used in packaging of FMCG products, on Thursday expressed concern about the rising trend of input cost which may jeopardise most of the units belonging to the MSME sector.

"If this trend continues, the working of most of the units in the micro and small sector will be adversely affected leading to its closure. As a result, livelihood of 35 lakh workers and their families will be affected," Eastern India Corrugated Box Manufacturers' Association president Milan Kumar Dey said. The price of craft paper, major input material or waste paper price has increased sharply, he said.

"The situation has further worsened since January, 2017, with the paper mills in rest of India, increasing price of the primary raw material - craft paper - by about Rs 3,000 per tonne," Dey claimed. Cost of human resources, freight, overheads and other inputs have also witnessed an extensive increase in price.
