Bus driver shot in road rage incident

In yet another case of road rage a 25-year-old bus driver was shot at by a property dealer in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri area on Sunday night. The police have arrested the three accused while the main culprit is still at large.

The incident took place at around 9:45 pm when the bus driver coming from Pandav Nagar had stopped at Karkari Crossing in Jagatpuri area to pick up passengers. A Santro car had been following it for quite a while in order to overtake it. As the bus driver, identified as Azeem, had stopped the bus for the passengers to board, all the four came out of the car and indulged in a heated altercation with the driver.

The accused allegedly started using abusive languages and thrashed him. In retaliation, Azeem slapped one of his friends after which another accused identified as Puneet Gupta (25), a property dealer, pulled out a pistol and fired several rounds on him.

According to police, two bullets hit Azeem in his lower abdomen and he fell on the ground. Leaving him in a pool of blood, the assailants fled the spot. Meanwhile, one of the passengers informed the police control room. The victim was rushed to the nearby Lal Bahadur hospital where he is said to be battling for life.

One of the PCR vans chased the assailants and managed to nab three of the four accused near Mayur Vihar police station. However, the main culprit managed to escape. All of them are stated to be in an inebriated condition.

‘The arrested have been identified as Pranav (23), Ankit Sahi (26), Harsh Chaudhary (28) who have been booked under the relevant sections including attempt to murder of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been registered at Jagatpuri police station,’ a police official said.
