Three burqa-clad armed men early on Monday allegedly entered the Medanta Medicity Hospital but fled after they were asked to prove their identities, police said. The three men apparently entered through the emergency door of the hospital around 3 am. The security guards there had allowed these men, mistaking them as women who carried entry passes to visit a patient.
According to the police, they silently sat near the cash counter on the ground floor, adjacent to the main entrance of the hospital. After a while, one of the accused walked to the cash counter asking a woman cashier at gun point to take out all the money from the drawer, while the other two accused looked out for guards walking towards them.
The men had walked into the private hospital with an intention of theft. All the three accused managed to flee the hospital premises after the guards raised an alarm to catch them.
“As soon as the three accused saw the guards walking towards them, one of the accused took out a pistol aiming to shoot one of the guards. When the patients and the staff present around the cash counter saw this sight, they all gathered to protect the guards by surrounding them”, said an eyewitness on the condition of anonymity.
The Gurgaon police have started their investigation into the matter. “We have recovered a CCTV footage of the entire incident from the hospital authorities, which might help in the investigation. Different teams at both police and CIA level have been formed to investigate this issue. Hopefully we’ll be able to nab the accused”, said Suresh Chand, SHO Sadar police station.
“Since they were wearing burqas, their age will be difficult to guess. We have full support from BS Tyagi who is the chief security officer at Medanta”, Chand added.
A case has been registered against the three unknown accused under Section 451 (house-trespassing) and Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code in Sadar police station.
