A 34-year-old constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his government flat in the Special Protection Group (SPG) complex in South-West Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 8 on Sunday morning. According to the police, they did not find any suicide note from the spot.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Thoma Shekhar, was posted in the Border Security Force before and had joined SPG as a constable in the year 2011. According to the police, the incident came to light at around 8.30 am, when Shekhar’s friend went and knocked on his door to call him for training but received no response.
An investigating officer said that the friend then shouted out his name and thumped hard on his door. When he still did not get any reply, he called more people and broke open the door, which was locked from inside.
To their shock, Shekhar was found hanging from the ceiling fan. Shekhar’s friend immediately called the local police who rushed to the spot and brought the deceased down. Police then took the body to a nearby hospital where Shekhar was declared dead on admission.
According to the investigating officer: “Shekhar was depressed for a long time due to domestic problems and used to indulge in a lot of alcohol everyday due to which his performance had also deteriorated. We have sent his body for post-mortem,” Shekhar is survived by his wife and two kids.
