A youth was beaten up late Tuesday night at Uluberia in Howrah as he was fighting for justice for his sister, who was raped allegedly by some local goons one and a half months ago. The police are yet to arrest the accused, who are threatening the youth to withdraw the complaint against them.
It may be mentioned that a 15-year-old girl was raped on the day of Holi at Chengail near Uluberia in Howrah. The girl had lodged a complaint with the police against some goons from the same area. The police have failed to arrest the accused. But they had entered the area on Tuesday night and beat up the girl’s brother.
The miscreants had stopped the youth when he was returning home on his bicycle and started beating him up. They had allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if his sister did not withdraw the complaint against them. They have also threatened them of attacking their house.
Some local people ran out of their houses hearing the youth’s cry for help. The miscreants had fled realising that they would get caught. The villagers took the youth to the hospital. He was discharged after necessary treatment.
In another quite similar incident elder brother of a class X student was beaten up for protesting against passing lewd comments at the girl. The incident took place at Basanti in South 24-Parganas.
