Beginning the New Year with a positive note, the national Capital has proudly welcomed World Book Fair ongoing January 13. The current year as well saw West Bengal Urdu Academy (WBUA) participating in New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) like the previous year at Pragati Maidan. The stall comprises hundreds of important titles in Urdu published by the Academy.
NDWBF is being held for the past 44 years and is a major calendar event in the publishing world. In view of working towards promotion of diverse books and developing reading habit in the country, the Fair has been organised by National Book Trust, India, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The stall at this Book Fair received a warm response from the book lovers and is hoping that this year again a large number of book-loving people would visit the stall and help them promote, advance and encourage the study the Urdu language and the habit of reading.
WBUA runs as per a memorandum with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee being its chairperson which has a general council comprising of 34 members and governing body with 17 members.
WBUA with special support from Sultan Ahmed (MP) and Md Nadimul Haque (MP) have been successfully working to meet their objectives. The academy further aims to advise and assist the state government in the formulation and implementation of its policies towards promotion, propagation and development of the language. It also publishes scholarly works on various topics in Urdu. Printing, publication and translation of popular Bengali classics in Urdu are some of their initiatives as well.
“Books are our best friends and book fairs play a great role in encouraging the reading habit among people of all age groups. This being the sole idea of West Bengal Urdu Academy has drawn us from West Bengal. WBUA invites you to visit us at the Delhi Book Fair any day at any time of your convenience. But before the entry to the Book Fair gets closed at 7 pm have a look at the new titles of the company. Also, we have some well-trained staffs running the stall,” the Governing body of WBUA said.
