Memories of a revolution that shook the world on 25 January 2011 are here to stir your imagination in the Capital with the screening of 1/2 Revolution on 26 May. View the revolution that hit the streets of Cairo, through the perspective of two renowned Egyptian-Danish filmmakers, Omar Shargawi and Karim El Hakim.
The best of Dharmshala International Film Festival (DIFF) brings you a monthly film fiesta with a screening on every last Sunday of the month. The movies to be screened are touted to be the best of independent cinema from DIFF that was held in November, 2012.
This month it has 1/2 Revolution in store for you; a documentary account of two filmmakers’ who happened to be in Cairo when the revolution unfolded. It is a harrowing tale from the revolution that was captured as a handheld testimony about a close-knit group of friends living in downtown Cairo, trapped inside the escalating Egyptian revolution, struggling to stay alive and stick together. With an ambition to capture the revolution beyond the headlines in media, Shargawi and Hakim, took to the streets to capture the historic turn of events in Egypt. With the claim of ‘A thrilling must see documentary with the authenticity and power to inspire,’ at the Sundance film festival, the documentary is inspirational. Stroll through the mayhem that broke out in Cairo through the eyes of the two gritty and determined storytellers to gain a better understanding of the revolution.
DIFF that opened to a fanfare with the vision of internationally acclaimed filmmakers Rity Sarin and Tenzing Sonam, captured the imagination of artistes and audience with the bouquet of films it offered from 1-4 November, 2012. The festival showcased 26 contemporary features, documentaries and shorts, curated from the best of international independent cinema.
Drawing over 5,000 film lovers from across India, it presented internationally acclaimed films including Five Broken Cameras, Pina, Shahid, Deeol, Senna, Miss Lovely, Hara Kiri, 1/2 Revolution and Gattu. India premieres at the festival included Oscar-nominated Five Broken Cameras, China Heavyweight, When Hari Got Married and Marina Abramovic The Artist is Present.
