Bring police under Delhi govt: AAP

While chief minister Kejriwal has claimed that he would come out with a foolproof plan to ensure security of women in the national capital, his party colleague Kumar Vishwas came in for criticism for saying that Delhi police did not report to the chief minister.

‘I have spoken to Lieutenant Governor (L-G). He will soon call a meeting of Delhi police commissioner and Delhi chief minister. In the meeting we will review the rape cases that occurred in the last one year to find out the reasons behind them and accordingly a detailed action plan will be made,’ said Kejriwal on Wednesday.

He further added that the rape cases will be classified on the basis of reasons behind it such as dark place and absence of policing. ‘We will identify vulnerable streets and points to address the issue,’ he added. ‘We will also request the chief justice of India for fast delivery of justice which will act as deterrent in such cases,’ added Kejriwal, whose party had led a virulent campaign against then Congress government when Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder took place.

Meanwhile, Vishwas, hand-picked by Kejriwal to take on Rahul Gandhi, was criticised by women groups for politicising the issue. Later in the day, party ideologue Anand Kumar said that he apologised on the behalf of the party for the statement made by Kumar.

AAP leader Kumar Vishwas stressed the need for Delhi police to be brought under the jurisdiction of the state government. Delhi police are at present under the jurisdiction of the union government.
‘Delhi police should be brought under the state government. This is an old demand of ours, so the chief minister and central government should make an effort,’ Vishwas said.
