Bridging gaps with celluloid

Films being a major form of communication, Chinese Consulate in Kolkata in cooperation with Nandan West Bengal Film Center, has brought The Chinese Film Festival to be held from 17 to 20 July  at Nandan Center in order to bridge the communication gap between the two nations. 

Seven of the best Chinese films of all time will be shown at the film festival. After each screening, a quiz will be held, and those giving right answers will each get a souvenir. Some films will also be screened at the schools and universities in Kolkata, as well as in other cities or states covered by the Consulate.

The event was inaugurated on Sunday evening at the Nandan Center in the presence of a number of invited celebrities and film stars like MP Dinesh Trivedi, actor Rituparna SenGupta, film-maker Mahesh Bhatt as well as Principal Secretary of the WB Ministry of Information and Cultural affairs, Atri Bhattacharya.

    The Festival is being held against the backdrop of enhanced cultural exchanges between China and India and it is hoped that the film festival can contribute in a small way to increased a better understanding of the neighboring country by people in Kolkata. It is also hoped that Indians will get to know that they have a lot in common with the Chinese.
