While resisting a robbery attempt in south Delhi’s Saket area, Delhi Police fired five shots, injuring one of the four robbers. One of them has been arrested while other three managed to flee.
The incident took place on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday at around 1.45 am, when the robbers were trying to enter inside a house in Saket area, the locals watched from outside. They made a call to the police control room (PCR) and a team immediately reached the spot.
‘When policemen tried to nab them, the alleged robbers attacked one of the policemen with iron rods and knives.
‘The policeman has been identified as Ramesh Sundar who has been posted at Saket police station as assistant sub-inspector,’ the official said.
Defending himself, Sundar opened fired and out of five rounds of firing, one of the bullets hit a thief in his leg. After the firing, the other accused managed to escape, whereas the injured was nabbed by the ASI. During interrogation, he revealed the identity of his remaining crime partners who had planned to launch an armed robbery in that particular house.
The accused robber who received gunshot injury has been identified as Ram Dayal and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma centre.
He has been booked under various Sections 186, 353, 307, 459, 380, 511, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and under section 25/27 of the Arms act. ‘A man-hunt is on to nab the other accused,’ the official added.
