The police recorded his ‘unofficial’ statement on Thursday to know exact reason behind the extreme step. The child is battling for his life Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Speaking to Millennium Post, a police official privy to investigation said, “The victim is still unfit for statement so we have recorded an unofficial statement as of now. Initially he didn’t open up but after new minutes he started narrating the cause of the provocation.”

According to the police, on Monday his Sanskrit teacher scolded him for not doing homework that was given on Saturday. The teacher allegedly harassed him and asked him to bring his parents to the school. “When he told the teacher that he is a single-parent child and his father died five years ago, his teacher asked him to bring his mother and elder brother to school”, said the police officer. The victim’s elder brother, however said he did not inform the matter to any of the family members.

“All of us were already stressed after the recent death of my maternal grand father. Also, my mother incurred some losses in the business (she runs a beauty parlour)”, said victim’s brother.

Meanwhile, the victim revealed to police that he had hidden a petrol bottle in the pocket of his blazer along with a matchbox.

Since the police claimed it was an unofficial statement, it did not question any of the school’s staff, including the school Sanskrit teacher.

“We are not sure about the allegations framed by the victim. Soon after recording victim’s official statement, we will question the alleged accused,” the officer added.

The doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital informed that the condition of the victim remained critical. He has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit with 45 per cent burn injuries.

On Wednesday morning, the victim went to the washroom and set himself ablaze inside the washroom of Holy Child Public School in Sector 29 Faridabad. A sweeper noticed smoke emanating from the washroom and rescued him with the help of school’s staff.
