Four people, including two state-level boxers and an under-16 state-level wrestler, have been arrested and a juvenile apprehended for robbing Rs 17.50 lakh from a businessman and taking his objectionable photographs with a woman to blackmail him for money, police said on Sunday.

Ramesh Dahiya, Amit Diya, Pawan Singh, Lalita and a 15-year-old boy were held on Saturday over a complaint by Joginder Singh, a resident of Narela in west Delhi. Amit and Pawan are Haryana State -level boxers. In his statement to police, Joginder said that he was returning home from office in his Hyundai Verna car on 1 September, when he was stopped by a person wearing police uniform in Deep Vihar area.

‘The person asked Joginder to show the car’s documents. Suddenly, two other persons came and forcibly put him in his car and tied his hands and legs with a rope,’ said Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer).

The accused then switched off Joginder’s mobile phone, taped his mouth shut and pushed him under the seat. After half-an-hour, they stopped the vehicle and took him to a place where a girl and two other persons were already waiting.

‘They took off his clothes at gun-point and clicked objectionable photographs with the girl,’ Rizvi added.

They later robbed Rs 17.50 lakh cash that Joginder was carrying and gold jewellery that he was wearing. He was subsequently dropped near Bhalswa Dairy area of north-west Delhi.

On Friday, Joginder received a note at his residence, which stated that the accused would release the  photographs taken by them, if he failed to pay Rs 4 lakh. Joginder then went to Auchandi Border along with a police team, with fake currency worth Rs 4 lakh. Around 10.30 pm, a Mahindra Scorpio car approached Joginder and its occupants tried to flee after taking the money. A Honda City car followed the Scorpio. Both vehicles were, however, intercepted by the police team after a chase. ‘Ramesh, Amit, Pawan and the juvenile were apprehended from the car,’ Rizvi said.

On sustained interrogation, the accused also identified Lalita, who was arrested from Patel Nagar. A case of kidnapping and robbery under Sections 365 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged at Bhalswa Dairy police station.
