Considered one of the city’s first woman cab drivers, 40-year-old Bharati Veerath was found dead at her residence here, police said on Tuesday. Bharati, who worked for cab aggregator Uber and hailed from Warangal in the neighbouring Telangana, was found hanging in her residence in Nagashettyhalli on Monday, police said. The incident came to light when neighbours got suspicious on seeing her cab parked unattended, they added.

The police are investigating the cause of her death. Officials said they are waiting her post-mortem report to work on the future course of action. Uber said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of Bharathi Veerath. Bharathi was a positive person and one of our top women driver partners. She was an inspiration to many driver partners and riders. Our thoughts are with her family.”  Before becoming a cab driver, Bharati had worked with an NGO Sangama in Bengaluru.
