Speaking to the media persons, party general secretary JP Nadda said, ‘This will be a first of its kind introduced by the organization, as we are launching our membership drive from 1 November across the nation.’
He said, ‘Earlier, there was a perform, which the active party members used to fill but this time apart from the existing procedure we are introducing the concept of digital membership registration. Our emphasis will be on mobile and internet through party president Amit Shah will make prime minister Modi the first member through SMS and Modi will make Shah the second member by similar method at the party headquarters on 1 November.’
The six-month long membership drive is expected to break all records in the midst of outstanding performance in Lok Sabha elections as well as recent Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana. Now, the party seeks to strengthen its base in other parts of the country. Presently, the party has 3.25 crore members, though not all of them are active workers.
For the first time, BJP has introduced the use of mobile and internet for people to become a party member. Those who are interested will have to call a mobile number, which would be disclosed on 1 November, to start membership process.
The party generally seeks to increase its members by 20 per cent during the drive, which is launched every sixth year. ‘But this time we are confident to break all previous records,’ he said.
