Amid strong criticism from the Opposition on atrocities against Dalits in Gujarat and former BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s derogatory remark against BSP chief Mayawati, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is readying to defend itself by raising the issue of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s nap in Parliament.

On Thursday, senior BJP leaders attacked the Congress, saying, “Rahul and responsibility are not made for each other. But Rahul and relaxation complement each other.”

BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the party was shirking from discussing such sensitive issues and was instead politicising them. He added Congress was busy in vote-bank politics.

“Was is not the party’s vice-president, who was sleeping while such sensitive issue was being discussed on the floor of the house? The Congress has been sleeping for the last 70 years,” he added.

Another senior party leader, Bizay Sonkar Shastri, also attacked the Congress and said, “History says that the party possesses anti-Dalit view. This party compelled Dr  Ambedkar to resign during Neheru government.”

The saffron party also alleged that Congress was scared of its transparent governance.
