By electing Satish Upadhyay as a member of the Delhi Development Authority, the BJP sent its second leader to the DDA board. Upadhyay, the Delhi BJP president and councillor from Malviya Nagar area, on Thursday was elected as the member from South MCD, days after the former state BJP president, Vijender Gupta was elected member from the ministry quota. With the anointment of Upadhyay, BJP managed to have two representatives from the party in the 14-member board.

Upadhyay, who has also been the chairman of the standing committee of the civic agency earlier, beat Satish Gupta from Congress by a margin of one vote. Out of the 95 councillors participating in the voting, 48 favoured Upadhyay while the remaining 47 voted for Gupta, a councillor from Deoli area.

Although, the tenure of elected members is five years, the state BJP chief will serve the post for two years only, because the civic body will elect a new member once the municipal elections are over.
Terming it as a victory for the BJP, the state party president assured that he will work towards the betterment of the Capital.

“Being a member of the DDA, I will focus on the implementation of pending projects. I will also emphasise on the welfare schemes of the housing authority,” said Upadhyay.

Notably, the DDA invites two members from the three civic agencies, out of which one is nominated from the South MCD.
