Despite the government making overtures towards the opposition party to break the deadlock in Parliament, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made it clear that it will not relent from its stated position, and in fact, has stepped up its aggressive stance by announcing a two-day agitation in all the state capitals.
‘BJP has decided to take the fight against corruption and the massive cover up from Parliament to the people of the country. We will hold demonstrations on the issue in all the state capitals on 4 and 5 May,’ said the BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar. BJP’s protest plans came a day after CBI registered a fresh case against Pushp Steel and Mines Ltd, a Chhattisgarh-based company in connection with alleged misrepresentation of facts while applying for coal blocks. Sources indicated BJP’s plan to corner government on coalgate is to counter the party’s tainted image in Karnataka, in the hope of influencing the outcome of the assembly elections to be held in the state on 5 May.
The party also insisted that the opposition has the right to demand a discussion despite arliament is being stalled.
