The principal opposition party is set to corner the government on the issue of ‘Hindu terror’ remarks by home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and the kickbacks received in the VVIP chopper deal.
Senior party leader of BJP said they would boycott Shinde in Parliament and would toughen their stand. The home minister, at the Congress party’s Chintan Shivar in Jaipur, had accused the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of running terror camps in the country. ‘The home minister needs to apologise,’ said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. The party, in a bid to step up its attack on the home minister, also plans to protest in the capital a day before the parliament session commences.
The other major headache for the government in the budget session will be the VVIP chopper deal and the opposition has made it clear the issue will be raised in parliament. The BJP, while laying the agenda for the budget session, attacked the Defence Minister A K Antony on Monday and said that he too was guilty because the deal was inked during his tenure. ‘This is a monumental scam in which kickbacks of Rs 3,600 crore were paid and Antony is now giving several orders and statements and is struggling to keep his Mr Clean image,’ said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy. His party, however, has still not asked for Antony’s resignation.
The third issue to be raked up is the resignation of deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha MP J Kurien. The party has said there is an alleged involvement of Kurien in Suryanelli sex scandal case and so he must step down. It is learnt that leader of opposition Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, who fought Kurien’s case, has said he will abide by the party decision.
