Chief of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Delhi unit, Vijay Goel, has been nominated by the party to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, while Delhi BJP co-in-charge RK Sinha has been nominated from Bihar.
Goel was, however, expecting a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk constituency against Congress leader Kapil Sibal.
The process for the Rajya Sabha polls has already begun with the issue of notifications by the Election Commission.
The filing of nominations started on Tuesday and it will continue till 28 January. As per the notifications, the scrutiny will be done on 29 January and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is 31 January.
Polling, if required, will be held on 7 February from 9 am to 4 pm and the counting will take place same day at 5 pm.
The term of office of 55 members of the Council of States expires between April 2 and 12 but the election process has been advanced by the EC in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Of the total Rajya Sabha seats for which elections will be held, seven are from Maharashtra, six each from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, five each from West Bengal and Bihar, four each from Odisha and Gujarat, three each from Assam, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, two each from Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Jharkhand and one each from Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Meghalaya.
