BJP MLAs urge L-G Jung to implement 4th Delhi Finance Commission measures

“We have urged the L-G to convene a special session of Delhi Assembly to table and publicise the fourth Delhi Finance Commission Report. As per the Commission’s formation order, the L-G is responsible and bound to get the report of the finance commission placed before the Assembly,” said Vijendra Gupta, leader of the BJP parliamentary party in Delhi Assembly.

“The previous Congress government under Sheila Dikshit and the present Arvind Kejriwal government try to show that the MCDs are inefficient and there is financial mismanagement in the corporations, whereas the reality is that the MCDs do not have sufficient financial resources,” he added. He further alleged that due to political rivalry, successive Delhi governments have been treating the corporations in step-motherly way; not giving them lawful share in the revenue of Delhi.

Gupta said that the Delhi Government’s political conspiracy is responsible for the economic and administrative mess in all the three Municipal Corporations.

In a letter submitted to the L-G, the three MLAs have said that in 2009 the fourth Delhi Finance Commission headed by P S Bhatnagar was constituted to decide upon the share of the MCD in the total revenue of Delhi, the taxes and tolls that the MCD could collect and ways and means to improve the financial health of the MCD.

After the trifurcation of the MCD, the work of Bhatnagar Commission was stalled and it was re-notified in February, 2012. This commission submitted its report in March, 2013. Due to political reasons, the then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and after her the Arvind Kejriwal government suppressed the report of the commission, alleged BJP leaders.
