BJP MLA Vijender Gupta has demanded that the Delhi government table reports of the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission in the Assembly and act upon its recommendations. The report was submitted on April 5, 2013. “I hope the government will not indulge in petty politics on matters of constitutional obligations, just because, the three MCDs are ruled by the opposition, BJP,” said Gupta.
He demanded the government to put forward the reports in the two-day Assembly session starting from March 24. The BJP would raise the issue either inside or outside the House.
The Fourth Delhi Finance Commission was established on October14, 2009, under Article 243-I of the Constitution and is mandated to examine the financial position of the municipalities and make recommendations on the matters listed in Article 243-Y of the Constitution.
The recommendations in the reports should have been implemented in the financial year 2013-14, with two years of retrospective effect. However, due to the government’s inaction under Congress regime and subsequently, reports are gathering dust in the coffer of the Delhi government for the past two years, while the municipalities are facing a deep financial crunch.
