A 27-year-old son of a BJP member was allegedly shot at by two unknown assailants in south Delhi's Chattarpur area. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon. The accused are on the run.

According to police, at around 1.35 pm a call was received at the police control room informing about the firing. A team of officials was immediately sent to the spot.

A source in the police, who is a part of the team investigating the incident, said, 'The findings from the crime scene and the statements given by the victim are very contradictory. It is too early to say anything about the allegations that have been made by them.'

The victim whose name was not disclosed by the police officials is a property dealer and has had an office in Chattarpur for the past few years. He is the son of Ravi Sharma (50) who is an active member of BJP and is likely to win in the upcoming Assembly elections as well.

The victim told the police that the incident took place at 1.28 pm when he was alone at the office. Two unknown persons came inside and asked him for permission to set up a food stall outside his office. Quoting the victim, the official said, 'when he denied them permission, they took out a pistol and shot at him. The victim, however, managed to escape injury The two assailants then fled from the spot.’

The source added no major injury mark was found on the victim’s body when he was taken for a medical examination. Neither was any empty bullet shell found at the spot. However, in the late evening, Sharma informed police that an empty bullet shell has been recovered from the second room. Police sources think that it might be a ploy to gain publicity ahead of the polls.
