After successful negotiations with the BSP and the NCP, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (South DMC) claims to have reached the magic majority number in the House. The party manager claimed to have garnered the support of approximately 70 councillors in the 104-member House that will elect its second mayor on Tuesday.

The South DMC has a total of 114 votes, which includes five members of parliament (MPs) and five MLAs, which means that the required number needed to get majority in the House is 58. All the five MPs eligible to vote in the House are from the Congress, but three of the five MLAs are from BJP. The BJP has 44 councillors in the house. The opposition Congress has 29 councillors, but with the help of the seven MPs and MLAs, it can control 36 votes in the House.

According to the BJP party manager, the party has received the support of the BSP, which has five seats in the House, by offering the post of deputy mayor to it. Sahiram Pehalwan is BSP's candidate for the post of deputy mayor and the BJP has not fielded its candidate for the post. However, the Congress has fielded Praveen Rana as its candidate and one independent candidate, Satender Singh Rana, is also in the race for the position.

‘We will support the NCP candidate for the post of chairman of the wards committee in the  central zone, deputy chairman of the central zone and their candidate for the post of member in standing committee,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of the standing committee. Besides, the party is also in talk with INLD leader and MLA Bharat Singh.
