With just one day left for filing nomination for Noida assembly bypoll, the BJP on Tuesday announced Bimla Batham, a senior state leader, as its candidate. With the announcement of the BJP nominee, it is going to be a tough fight in they bypolls. The ruling Samajwadi Party has fielded Kajal Sharma while the Congress party has declared Rajendra Awana as its candidate. Bimla’s candidature was announced amid speculations that Pankaj Singh, son of union home minster Rajnath Singh, was a likely candidate for polls.
Sources said that Rajnath failed to convince party leader for his son’s candidature. Bimla holds key portfolios in BJP’s women wing at state level and was chosen because of her popularity. Noida is a BJP stronghold which was represented by Dr Mahesh Sharma until he won LS polls in May.
