The two political parties in the city – BJP and Congress – are competing with each other to get hold of over 40 lakh Purvanchalis in the city.
On Thursday, BJP came out with a 13-point demand letter for the Chhath Purja celebrations in the city and declared to deploy over 10,000 car-sewaks on 160-odd Chatth ghats and organise camps for them.
BJP has also demanded the Delhi government to make arrangements for the sale of fruits, flowers and other necessary items for Chhath Puja at concessional rates.
‘Respecting the sentiments of over 40 lakh Poorvanchalis, the government should declare public holiday on 19 November on the occasion of their most sacred festival Chhath,’ said Vijender Gupta, president of Delhi BJP.
He also issued a 13-point demand for Chatth observers, asking for sufficient number of special trains from Delhi to Bihar, arrangements in MCD and DDA parks, sufficient water, cleaning of Yamuna bank and the connecting roads, free parking at ghats, sufficient toilets, arrangements for women to change after bathing, deployment of police and motor boats, free trasport for women goint to ghats, disaster management system at main railway stations to control mob and temporary dispensaries at railway and bus stations.
‘We will visit the Chhath ghats before the festival to have first hand knowledge of preparations and get feedback and direct the three corporations for proper arrangement,’ said Abhay Varma, conveyor of Delhi Pradesh Poorvanchal Cell in BJP.
‘We will depute over 10,000 volunteers for helping the Chhath observers on every Chhath ghat of Delhi’ added Varma.
