BJP continues to protest water woes in south Delhi

Senior BJP leader along with hundreds of residents of the Sangam Vihar area protested against the water crisis in the area on Tuesday.

In a memorandum sent to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit the leader has demanded immediate solution to the problem and sought relief for the residents.

The poor citizens of South Delhi residential colonies and village areas are facing severe water shortage. With the onset of summers, there is intense heat but not enough drinking water in unauthorised and authorised urban residential colonies including village areas in south Delhi.

The DJB Summer Action Plan is eagerly awaited. ‘So we are gathered here to demand drinking water,’ said BJP leader Vijay Jolly.

The worst affected colonies are Sangam Vihar, Deoli Village, Deoli road colonies like Jawahar Park, Raju Park, Krishna Park, Bihari Park, Khanpur, Tigri J.J. Camp, Tigri Colony, Madangir, Dakshinpuri, Pushp Vihar & Sainik Farm etc.

Delhi Jal Board has repeatedly failed to supply continuous fresh drinking water to the residents, BJP alleged. Out of 360 villages, DJB supplies water to only 135 villages in Delhi.

Out of 1639 unauthorised colonies, DJB is connected to only 560 colonies. This is the poor report card of Delhi Jal Board, said Jolly.

He demanded Delhi Jal Board to declare ‘Summer Action Plan’ immediately and connect Sonia Vihar with regular water lines to Sangam Vihar & other unauthorised colonies. He further demanded the government to replace the old pipelines .
