While addressing a joint press conference with other senior Congress leaders, Delhi Congress Party president Arvinder Singh Lovely on Tuesday said the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre had not only betrayed over 50 lakh people living in the unauthorised colonies of
Delhi but were also misleading them with an eye on the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
According to Lovely, no colony would benefit from the change of the cut-off date to 2014 for regularisation of these colonies. Haroon Yusuf, Mukesh Sharma, Mahabal Mishra, Dr Yoganand Shatri and Ex MLA Sumesh Shokeen, Rajiv Bhawan, Pradesh Youth Congress President Amit Malik and Alok Sharma were also present at the press conference. After a day of announcement on regularisation of colonies, the AAP had also slammed the BJP government’s attempt to spread incorrect information about the ordinance to regularise unauthorised colonies.
AAP spokespersons directly accused the Modi government by saying that it has fooled the people living in these colonies by merely changing the deadline. AAP challenged the central government to make public the list of unauthorised colonies which it will regularise and by which date.
“The Congress had not only regularised 895 unauthorised colonies but had issued gazette notification regarding this decision. During the Congress rule, Rs 1,200 crore had been spent for the development of unauthorised colonies,” said Lovely.
