Bizman who raped woman in CP, arrested from Chandigarh

Hours after a 33-year-old woman was raped in a hotel at Connaught Place by a Chandigarh-based businessman, the culprit was arrested with the coordinated efforts of the Delhi and Chandigarh cops. The accused, Vijay Chand, a 58-year-old businessman who runs a medical store, had fled the national Capital after sexually assaulting the woman at the hotel located at the Inner Circle of Connaught Place.

According to the police officer privy to the investigation, the woman in her mid-thirties, a native of Himachal Pradesh had met Chand at Chandigarh two to three times. During their meetings in Chandigarh, the woman had mentioned that she was searching for a job. Chand assured her that he would help her in getting a job.

“Living with her cousin in Defence Colony, the woman came in contact with the businessman who told her to come at a hotel in CP for lunch. He spiked her drinks with sedatives and took her to his room where he raped her. By the time, the woman gained consciousness, he had fled from the hotel,” added the officer.

“He promised me that he will help in setting up an interview with an MNC so therefore told me to come to the hotel in Connaught Place on Friday afternoon,” informed the complainant to the cops.
A case had been registered under IPC Section 376 (rape) at the Connaught Place police station. With the help of the CCTV footage of the hotel, Delhi Police were able to establish the identity of the businessman. The Delhi Police flashed the physical characteristics of Chand to Chandigarh Police, who raided his house and arrested him.
