A 58-year-old businessman, who was driving home in his BMW car, was allegedly physically assaulted and robbed of Rs 25,000 cash by two unidentified youths at central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar area on Wednesday evening.

The victim, Gurdeet Anand, is a manufacturer and distributor of automobile accessories and spares, and has his office at Patel Nagar. At around 4.30 pm on Wednesday evening, when he was heading towards his residence at Model Town, a Tata Sumo SUV occupied by a family of three brushed past his BMW. He entered into an altercation with the man driving the car, but that was duly settled within minutes after the family apologised.

When Gurdeet was about to board his BMW again, suddenly a Hyundai i10 car stopped by and two unidentified youths deboarded the vehicle. They allegedly started abusing Gurdeet and then thrashed him. Before leaving, they also took away cash Rs 25,000 in Gurdeet’s possession.

The businessman, however, chased the accused for a while and noted the registration number of the Hyundai i10. Later, he reported the matter to the police.

A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC at the Ranjit Nagar police station and investigation is underway, said a police official.
