India recently lost one of its top women bikers, Veenu Paliwal, who was on a nationwide tour with Dipesh Tanwar, in an accident. Paying tribute to the 44-year-old biker, around 200 motorcyclists took out a ride in national Capital on Sunday.  Paliwal was popularly known as ‘Lady of the Harley’.

The motorcyclists started a 10-km ‘tribute’ ride from South Extension Part-2 in the morning. The ride concluded at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium.

Deviating from their usual practice of riding at a high speed, the motorcyclists drove slow. “We want to pay tribute to Paliwal. We as a biker community mourn the loss. We just want to tell those, who love to ride motorbikes, to drive carefully as life is precious,” said Monika Sachdeva, the organiser of the tribute rally.

She added: “Bikers should take all precaution and recheck their vehicles before starting a ride. A mistake that most people commit is that they don’t wear helmet.”

“What could be a better tribute than a bikers rally for a woman, who lived with the passion of riding motorbikes and died during a ride,” questioned Eneesh Singh Arora, a participant.

Another participant, Rames said: “Paliwal was a light to all motor sports lovers in the country. Taking not so traditional line, she made the bike-riding more attractive.”

Paliwal succumbed to her injuries, following an accident in Gyaraspur,100km  from Bhopal, after her Harley Davidson Sportster 48 skidded along a sharp turn on the highway. She suffered severe internal injuries and died at the Vidisha district hospital in Madhya Pradesh.
